Montclair Momentum

Here’s why a Montclair nonprofit is donating LGBTQ-inclusive books to local preschools

Books featuring LGBTQ+ characters and stories appeared on banned book lists, came under fire at many local government meetings and disappeared from libraries, particularly in schools, in recent years.

Just last month, Glen Ridge Public Library voted to keep six contested books discussing LGBTQ+ topics on its shelves. This sparked the team of volunteers at Out Montclair, an LGBTQ+ nonprofit in the neighboring town, to accelerate efforts to promote inclusive books.
